Being laid off...

Starting Over.
It's crazy how things happen isn't it? Just when you think you've got it all planned out and you know just where you're going and what you want to do, fate or destiny, depending on how you look at it, comes along and turns it all around or upside down, depending on your outlook. I still dont know if what is going on with me is destiny or disaster, I know longer know what I want to do. I used to know exactly what I wanted and tried to develop a plan to get there. After going through 2 layoffs and finally finding a job with a company that I believed to have a secure future, 6 years later our CEO announces that the company has been sold. Well naturally we all start to worry and wonder what that means for us. They try to ease our thoughts and minds by telling us they need us and there won't be many layoffs and they need us for where they are planning on taking the company. Of course we dont stop worrying, in fact we start speculating. Are they just telling us that because they dont want a mass exit of employees or do they really mean they are growing the company and need as many of us around as possible. But week after week seeing your fellow employees being booted out of the door, the worrying starts to go into overdrive, especially for those of us working in the accounting department. Then again some good things can happen in spite of it all. With employees being booted out or voluntarily leaving out of fear means more work to be done for the remaining employees. I was able to learn a few other areas of accounting due to all 3 of our analysts leaving. I was also given an offer by the new company (Company B) to relocate to NY and be a part of their accounting department. However they did let me know that my position would be eliminated early part of 2012. So of course I considered it, we love NY and we have familiy there and we're a little bored with OK now. So the Monday of the week I was to fly to NY to meet the team and tour the company, the CEO of company B announces that he has just sold the company. This news comes only 2 months after the close of our merger. We were just getting acquainted with their policies and procedures. I still made the trip and fell in love with everyone there, but there was now this huge cloud of doubt looming over our heads. It has now been a month since that announcement and I have made the decision not to accept the relocation since the recent announcement that accounting/finance would no longer be headquartered in NY but in LittleRock, AR. There is absolutely NO WAY I would even consider relocating now. No pun towards Arkansas, I was married in Arkansas. it's just not much different than being in OK and I have no family there. There is not much in the way of jobs right now and especially in OK. I would love to be in NYC but being out of state and going up against that much competition is like winning the lottery (without ever buying a ticket). I've tried and actually received several inquiries but they all gave me the same answer, we really need you to already be living here, so give us a call when you move. So this starts my task of starting over and let me tell you, it is no fun at all. So many road blocks. I've also been taking online classes for the last 2 years to further my education and I almost feel like my efforts are futile. We'll see how it goes, I'll keep you posted on my journey.
